This Thor's Hammer pendant is based on an original that is thought to have been found in Scandinavia in the early 20th Century.
It probably dates from around the 10th Century, and is unusual in having a raven or eagle head - the beak of which forms the bail.
The original was sold at auction in 2013 and is now in a private collection.
This pewter pendant is cast and hand finished by us in Scotland, and comes with a length of black waxed cord. It's presented on a pendnant card with a description on the back. Our pewter is lead, nickel and cadmium free.
Gilding, or gold plating, was carried out on many jewellery items in the Viking age, using the mercury gilding process. This piece has a 1micron thick layer of gold, plated over pewter, to give an attractive representation of what some of these Viking age pieces may have looked like when they were first made.
It is cast in lead free pewter in Scotland, then gold plated, and comes with a length of black cord.
