This stunning openwork brooch is a replica of one from the Galloway Hoard. We produce 2 versions of this brooch. The first has the openwork front cast in pewter, and the back plate is gold plated pewter. The second version has an openwork front of 925 Sterling silver, and a back plate of gold plated brass. Both versions have heavy duty pins on them that are suitable for re-enactment purposes.
The front openwork has four animals arranged around the centre boss, surrounded by knotwork panels. The back plate is gilded so that the gold shows through the openwork.
The silver version is laser hallmarked at the Edinburgh assay office.
The diameter of this brooch is approx. 64mm. The pewter version has a combined weight of around 73g including the pin.
The silver front weighs around 42g, and the gold plated bronze back weighs approx. 21g.
