ABR024 - Backwards Looking Beast Medium

This disc brooch is a replica of one found at Coppergate, York. It dates from the 10th century and features the classic backwards looking animal design seen in many forms on Viking age brooches. The original was made using the repousse technique with the design being applied to the back of a copper alloy plate with a punch. This was then attached to an iron backplate with a catch on it. We used the same method to make the master design for our replica.

This brooch is available in either pewter or bronze.
