These pewter brooches are based on a find from a child's grave in Gotland, Sweden. They are miniature versions of the popular adult brooch style from the period and a rare and unusual item. They are handmade from lead free pewter in Scotland, and measure 22mm by 39mm.

ABR013 - Luck of Lochland

Irish annals suggest that Lochland was a Viking kingdom in Scotland in the 8th/9th century. This pewter brooch is an original design based on the 10th century Jelling Style. It is inspired by original brooches and the one described in ‘Whos Afraid of Beowulf’ by Tom Holt.
It is handmade in Scotland from lead free pewter, and comes with a gift bag and care instructions. It measures 64mm by 40mm.

Introduced into Scandinavia in the 8th century, this type of brooch was used as a clothing fastener. This pewter replica is based on an original from East Anglia. It is handmade in Scotland and measures 52mm by 52mm. It comes with a gift bag and care instructions.

ABR016 - Pair of Tortoise Brooches

Based on a find from Lisbjerg, Denmark, they sport a very cheerful looking gripping beast design. They are lighter than our previous version with a new mould being produced to replicate the traditional construction method. As a result, the back of the brooch is patterned with weave from the cloth used when making the mould - just like the originals.

The brooches are 8.2 cm long, and weigh about 90g each. They are cast in lead free pewter in Scotland, and come with a gift bag and care instructions.

ABR021 - Hedeby Dragon Headed Pin

This pin is based on a viking age find from Hedeby in Denmark. The design is executed in the Borre style, and it can be used as a hair pin or to fasten a cloak or shawl. The loop on the head being used to attach a chord or thong to hold it in place.

The pin weighs 28g, is 144mm long, 28mm wide and has a depth of 8mm.

ABR018 - Borre Style Trefoil Brooch

This trefoil brooch is decorated in the Borre style which was common in the mid 9th to mid 10th century. It is based on one found in the North of England. This type of brooch was typically used by women as a clothing fastener, perhaps to close a coat.

 

The brooch weighs 49g and meausres 45 x 45 x 16mm.

ABR019 - Pair of Broa Style Oval Brooches

These brooches, in the broa-style, are based on a find from Öland in Sweden. The style of the original piece dates it to the early part of the viking age, where a pair of brooches would once have been used to fasten the female dress known as a hangarok or smokkr.

 

The brooches are cast in solid pewter and weigh 67g individually. Each of the brooches measures 40mm x 64mm x 15mm, and are sold as a pair.

ABR020 - Urnes Style Brooch

This openwork brooch depicts an Urnes style animal, possibly a horse or dragon with snakes entwined around its body and limbs. It is based on a find from Trollashogur, Iceland. The style of the design dates the original to the 11th Century, towards the end of the viking age.

 

The brooch weighs 16g and measures 35mm wide, 38mm long and 10mm

ABR011 - Pair of Anglo Saxon Short Long Brooch

These are Anglo Saxon fibula style brooches of the 5th/6th century. They are worn either singly, fastening a cloak, or in pairs to fasten a dress or peplos. These brooches, sport a pair of eagle or raven heads, which were a common motif in Anglo Saxon Art. They are cast from lead free pewter in Scotland, and measure 36mm by 67mm.
